Pete Rose’s baseball career spanned over two decades, during which he also became a father to five children: Fawn, Pete, Morgan, Tyler, and Cara. The legendary baseball player passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 83. Before his death, Rose was a dedicated father, starting with his daughter Fawn Rose, whom he welcomed in 1964 with his then-wife, Karolyn Englehardt. The couple later had their son, Pete Rose Jr., in 1969. After their divorce in 1980, Rose married his second wife, Carol J. Woliung, in 1984. That same year, they welcomed their son, Tyler Rose, followed by their daughter, Cara Rose, in 1989. In 1996, Rose acknowledged Morgan Erin Rubio as his daughter after settling a 1978 paternity suit. Rose had a celebrated baseball career until he received a lifetime ban in 1989 for betting on games while managing the Cincinnati Reds from 1986 to 1989. Despite his challenges, Rose told Cincinnati.com in 2019 that he always aimed to be the best father he could be for his children.

Fawn Rose, 60

Fawn was born in 1964, the same year Rose married his first wife, Englehardt. Though Fawn has largely stayed out of the spotlight, Rose admitted he worried he wasn’t as present as he should have been during her early years, given that she was born during the height of his baseball career. “The only person I felt got cheated was my oldest daughter,” he told Cincinnati.com about the time he missed. “When I was home playing for the Reds, my son Pete would go to the ballpark with me. But because she was a girl, my daughter couldn’t come into the clubhouse with me [due to clubhouse rules at the time]. She never got that experience that I had with Pete.

Pete Rose Jr., 55

Five years after Fawn, Rose and Englehardt welcomed their son, Pete Rose Jr., in 1969. As a child, Pete Jr. was deeply involved in his father’s career, serving as his batboy and even appearing with him on a 1982 Fleer baseball card titled “Pete & Re-Pete: Pete Rose & son” when he was 12. Despite his father’s legacy, Rose told The New York Times he didn’t pressure his sons to follow in his footsteps, saying, “I don’t care if Petey or Tyler become ballplayers… I just want them to give a good effort at whatever they choose.” Pete Jr. did follow his father into baseball, playing mostly in the minor leagues before a brief 1997 stint with the Cincinnati Reds. He later transitioned to coaching, joining the Chicago White Sox’s rookie league team in Montana in 2011.

Morgan Erin Rubio

In 1978, Terry Rubio filed a paternity suit alleging Rose was the father of her daughter. Nearly two decades later, in 1996, Rose acknowledged Morgan Erin Rubio as his daughter.

Tyler Rose, 40

Tyler was born to Rose and his second wife, Carol Woliung, in 1984. Rose had originally wanted to name him Tyrus after the legendary baseball player Tyrus Cobb, but Woliung wasn’t on board with the idea. “And I don’t think Pete did either,” she told The New York Times in 1985. “I thought Tyler was nice, and that was fine with Pete.” As of 2008, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Tyler was living in Las Vegas and pursuing a career as a DJ under the name “TRose.

Cara Rose, 35

Rose’s youngest child, Cara, was born in 1989. She later pursued a career in acting, working under the name Chea Courtney, primarily during the 1990s and early 2000s. Cara appeared in popular TV shows like Melrose Place and Passions. She has also made a few public appearances with her father, including at the 3rd Annual Super Concert Series at The Grove in 2005.
