The number of living former U.S. presidents decreased to four on December 29, 2024, with the passing of Jimmy Carter at age 100. His death came just months after he set the record as the longest-living president in U.S. history. The remaining former presidents are Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. In addition to his longevity, Carter held the record for the longest presidential marriage, sharing 77 years with his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who passed away in November 2023. After entering hospice care in February 2023, the 39th president passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia.

Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States

Succeeded By: George W. Bush. After two eventful terms in office, including his historic impeachment, Bill Clinton established the Clinton Foundation in 2001. The foundation focuses on expanding economic opportunities, improving public health, addressing climate change, and inspiring civic engagement. Clinton also played a significant role in his wife Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2016 and has engaged in various diplomatic efforts, including collaborations with the United Nations. Over the years, Clinton has faced several health challenges, including quadruple bypass surgery in 2004, a collapsed lung in 2005, coronary stents in 2010, a battle with sepsis in 2021, and a COVID-19 infection in November 2022.

George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States

Bush has also embraced his artistic side, becoming an accomplished painter. His works have been displayed at Disney’s EPCOT and featured in books honoring America’s immigrants and military veterans. On the health front, Bush underwent coronary artery stent placement in 2013 after a life-threatening blockage. In early 2023, it was revealed by his daughter Jenna Bush Hager that he had successfully recovered from back surgery, with his spokesperson confirming a smooth recovery.
