Sofía Vergara is a devoted mother to her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara. The “Modern Family” star welcomed him in Colombia in 1991 when she was just 18 years old and married to her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez. The couple parted ways two years later. In a May 2024 interview with Kidsco, Vergara shared reflections on being a young mother, stating, “I don’t even remember much of my life without being a mother. It’s a unique experience. It changes you—it’s very rewarding and gives you a lot of headaches too,” she said.

Now at 32 years old, Manolo leads his own life and is quite active on social media. He’s an avid animal lover who enjoys cooking and traveling, and he maintains a close bond with his mom. For Vergara’s 51st birthday in 2023, Manolo celebrated by posting a throwback photo on his Instagram Story with the caption, “Happy Birthday ma!!!!! Te quiero mucho,” showing a young Vergara holding him dressed as a rodeo clown. This touching tribute came just weeks before it was confirmed by sources to that Vergara and actor Joe Manganiello were divorcing after seven years of marriage. The pair had married in Palm Beach, Florida, in 2015, with Manolo having the honor of escorting his mother down the aisle.

From the story behind his name to his appearances on the red carpet with his mom, here’s everything you need to know about Sofía Vergara’s son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara.

During a 2010 appearance on Regis & Kelly, she disclosed that she named Manolo after a character from the film “Scarface.” “I looooved that movie, and I was in looove with Steven Bauer,” she reminisced in a 2013 interview with Vogue. “Then my son, when he grew up, he was like, ‘Oh yeah, Mom, how amazing you named me after a drug-dealer junkie!’ And I was like, ‘Shut up, Manolo.'” In May 2024, she shared with Kidsco that becoming a mom at a young age made her ponder what might have been different if she had waited. “I wish I was older sometimes, because I would’ve been more mature, more prepared to be a mother, but that was what I got and what happened,” she explained. “So I just kept going and try not to look back at it, because it is what it is. But it is fun because I kind of grew up together with my son.

He earned his degree from Emerson College

In November 2015, Manolo played a significant role in his mother’s wedding by walking her down the aisle and giving her away to Joe Manganiello.
