James Corden, known for his successful stint on The Late Late Show, is excited about dedicating more time to his family. He and his wife, Julia Carey, share three children—Max, Carey, and Charlotte—after tying the knot in 2012 following three years of dating. Their journey as parents began before their marriage, with the birth of their son Max, now 11, in 2011. Their daughters, Carey, 10, and Charlotte, 6, joined the family in 2014 and 2017, respectively. As Corden’s career flourished after joining The Late Late Show in 2015, Julia and the kids supported him through the whirlwind. In June 2022, however, the “Carpool Karaoke” star announced his departure, prioritising family time.
“My kids are getting older, their grandparents are getting older, and it felt like the right time for us as a family to be freer in our decisions,” Corden shared with Extra. While he acknowledges that balancing a rising career and fatherhood has its challenges, he says his children make it all “worthwhile.” During a January 2, 2022, appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Corden elaborated, “It’s not easy to walk away from something so… incredible. I’ll never work in a better environment than I do now,” he said. “Leaving the show wasn’t because I stopped enjoying it—I love it—but I always saw it as an adventure, not the final destination.
Max McCartney Kimberley Corden, 11
James and Julia welcomed their first child, Max, in March 2011. With two middle names, one is a tribute to Beatles legend Paul McCartney, with Corden once promising to name his son after the musician if McCartney agreed to a Comic Relief sketch. “I always come through on a promise,” Corden told, sharing that McCartney was thrilled. Max also has a star-studded godfather: actor Dominic Cooper, who introduced James to Julia. Cooper and Corden shared a laugh on The Late Late Show in 2018 when Cooper temporarily forgot Max’s middle name. For Corden, family time has always been a priority, as his son affectionately dubbed Saturdays “Dad-urday.”
Carey Corden, 10
The couple’s older daughter, Carey, was born on October 27, 2014, in London, and named after Julia’s maiden name. Reflecting on her arrival, James said, “She’s a cutie!” Shortly after Carey’s birth, the family moved from London to Los Angeles so James could host The Late Late Show, but he has always emphasised that family is more important than career milestones. “What’s more scary? Being a father. No question,” he admitted. Having three kids, James explained, changed his outlook on life and the projects he chose, such as voicing Peter Rabbit, much to his children’s delight.
Charlotte Corden, 6
The youngest of the Corden children, Charlotte, arrived on December 12, 2017. “Today we welcomed a beautiful baby daughter into the world. Both she and her mother are doing great,” Corden announced on Twitter. Her early arrival almost caused James to miss the birth. He was in New York when he received a text from Julia’s nurse, and he managed to board a flight back to L.A. just in time. Due to the rush, the couple hadn’t chosen a name yet, prompting a tearful and humorous moment when Corden jokingly told the doctor they’d name her “Beyoncé.

James credits his marriage to Julia to his friend Dominic Cooper, who introduced the couple in 2009. Married three years later, Corden and Julia now have three children together.
