Among his numerous roles in television and film, James Marsden considers his role as a dad his greatest achievement. Marsden is the father of three kids: Jack, Mary, and William. He had Jack and Mary with his ex-wife Lisa Linde, with whom he was married for 11 years. His youngest, William, is from his relationship with Brazilian model Rose Costa. Despite leading roles in popular projects like *Dead to Me*, *27 Dresses*, and *Enchanted*, Marsden has stated that fatherhood is his proudest accomplishment. In a 2018 interview with *Men’s Health*, he said, “Being a father is the one thing I’m most proud of.” He added, “It is the most fulfilling. I’m always self-deprecating, but I don’t have a problem saying that I am a great dad.” Marsden has a sense of humor about his kids’ reaction to his career, joking that they’re “kind of wonderfully underwhelmed” by his acting. While he generally keeps his family life private, Marsden occasionally shares glimpses of his children on social media. He even brought Jack, Mary, and William to the red carpet premiere of *Sonic the Hedgehog 2* in April 2022. In January 2024, Marsden revealed that his favorite holiday tradition is spending time with his kids. “I’ve traveled so much and it’s always great and I love what I do and get to move around quite a bit, but there’s something about just feeling like you’re home and doing those Christmas traditions that we do with my kids, to get all my kids together and everybody and just being home,” he said. Here’s everything you need to know about James Marsden’s three children.

Jack Marsden, 22

Marsden and Linde welcomed their son, Jack Holden, on February 1, 2001. In July 2017, Marsden shared with Wonderwall that his children were somewhat “underwhelmed” by his career when they were younger, though his older son, Jack, did find HBO’s *Westworld* intriguing. The actor explained that while Jack, who was 16 at the time, enjoyed the show overall, some of its themes were a bit mature for him. Despite this, Marsden noted that Jack was “proud” of his dad and expressed an interest in visiting the set to see how everything was done. So far, none of Marsden’s children have pursued acting like their father. However, Jack has found his own path in the modeling industry. In January 2018, Marsden proudly celebrated his son’s runway debut at a Dolce & Gabbana men’s fashion show by sharing two Instagram photos from the event, labeling himself a “#proudpapa” and “#oversharingprouddad” in the captions. Marsden reflected on this significant moment in Jack’s career during a May 2018 interview with Men’s Health. “I’m so proud of him,” he said. “Is it strange to admit that my son is someone I wish I were more like?” Before Jack’s runway debut, Marsden spoke with Wonderwall about his son’s foray into modeling, mentioning that Jack was “testing it out” to see if it was the right fit for him.

Mary Marsden, age 19

Marsden and Linde welcomed their daughter, Mary James, on August 10, 2005. Mary tends to keep a lower profile compared to her older brother. Over the years, she has made a few public appearances with her father, including attending the premieres of *Sonic the Hedgehog* in 2020 and *Sonic the Hedgehog 2* in 2022, alongside her father and younger brother, William. While Marsden rarely shares glimpses of his daughter on social media, he has posted a few throwback photos and videos of Mary over the years, capturing sweet moments from her childhood. As a child, Mary was a fan of *Where the Wild Things Are,* as shown in a video Marsden shared. The clip features a 3-year-old Mary dressed in the same white, furry suit worn by Max, the book’s character. In the caption, Marsden shared an adorable detail about his daughter, writing, “Mary wore the Max suit every day for well over a month.”

William Luca Costa-Marsden, age 10

Marsden and Costa welcomed their son, William Luca, on December 14, 2012. With a seven-year age gap between Mary and William, Marsden found himself adjusting to life with a newborn again, a transition he felt well-prepared for. In a February 2014 interview with ABC News, he said, “Once you become a father… it’s like riding a bike — once you learn it, you sort of got it.” The *Enchanted* actor rarely shares photos of his youngest child on social media, but William has made appearances at the red carpet events for both *Sonic the Hedgehog* movies alongside his father. In June 2019, Marsden celebrated Father’s Day by sharing adorable photos that captured the playful side of his children, including William. One photo showed the father of three on a trampoline as William and Mary tugged at the sleeves of Marsden’s sweatshirt. Another photo featured Marsden holding William on his lap while Mary and Jack snuggled beside and behind him. William seems to spend a lot of quality time with his mom, traveling the world together. In a photo from their trip to Puglia, Italy, Costa referred to William as her “travel buddy” and mentioned that by the age of 10, he had already visited 13 countries. In addition to his adventures, William has taken up skiing, with his mom proudly calling him a “pro” shortly after he turned 9. To celebrate William’s 10th birthday, Costa shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, including a baby photo of her son and a video of him blowing out candles on cupcakes. In the caption, she described William as an inquisitive child with “so much empathy and wonder.” She added: “You’re genuine, funny, smart, and most of all, you have the kindest heart I’ve ever known. You think about everything and are so thoughtful.”
