Jennifer Lopez juggles roles as an actress, singer, dancer, and business mogul, yet her most cherished role is motherhood to her 16-year-old twins, Maximilian “Max” David Muniz and Emme Maribel Muniz. Emme and Max entered the world in February 2008
Lopez and Anthony greeted their twins into their lives on February 22, 2008. “Jennifer and Marc are ecstatic, overjoyed, and absolutely thrilled,” Simon Fields, Lopez’s manager, exclusively informed following the birth.
They belong to a large, blended family
Max and Emme have been nurtured in an environment filled with abundant love. They have an older half-sister and three older half-brothers from their father’s side. After their mother married Ben Affleck in July 2022, they welcomed three step-siblings—Samuel, Seraphina, and Violet—into their lives. Before the marriage, Lopez shared with Vogue that they were approaching the blending of their families with “so much care.” “I hope to foster a relationship where his kids see a new ally in me, and my kids see a new ally in him,” she elaborated. Lopez is immensely proud of her children, yet she concedes that mothering teenagers introduces a slew of new challenges. “The teenage years are tough,” she remarked during an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark. “It’s challenging. You have this little baby for years, then suddenly they’re your best little friend who always wants to be around you, and then it shifts to ‘Get out of my room.’ They question everything you say, everything you do, and everything you are, and that’s just how it is,” she added. “You have to just ride the waves. But with “almost” five teens in the house, the waves have been particularly choppy. “It’s like, ‘Oops, I just got knocked over!’ But now, I’m back, I’m back!” Lopez joked.
Emme and Max manage fame "with a lot of grace
As Emme and Max have matured, they’ve grown to fully grasp the magnitude of Lopez’s celebrity status. They enjoy watching “World of Dance” with her, a bonding activity Lopez cherishes, but she recognizes the pressures that come with being children of a famous parent. “I think it’s a lot for them. They didn’t ask for this,” she expressed at the premiere of her movie “The Mother.” “But they handle it with a lot of grace. I try to make life as good as I can for them. They’re lovely kids, and I strive to give them the best life possible.” She also mentioned that while the twins are “proud” of her career, they do not shy away from offering their candid opinions. In February 2024, Lopez told Variety about a revealing moment when she played her 2002 album, “This Is Me…Then,” for them at home. They reacted with surprise, “Is this you, Mommy?” After confirming it was her work, she played another track, seeking their feedback, to which they preferred her older work over her recent releases. “Yeah, we like this more than the music you make now,” they said. Lopez opted for homeschooling her children
Lopez prioritizes “being there with” her children as they grow up. To enable them to accompany her on tours, residencies, and various trips for appearances and filming, she chose homeschooling when they were younger, despite facing some criticism. “Everybody’s like, ‘You should have them in school, they need friends,'” she shared with Fox 5 New York. “It can drive you crazy.” Despite differing opinions, Lopez emphasized that her children are flourishing. “They are super happy, well-adjusted, loving, caring kids, and that’s the most important thing,” she affirmed.
Emme, like Lopez, is both a singer and an author
Emme is swiftly stepping into Lopez’s versatile shoes. During the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show, Emme captivated audiences by performing her mother’s hit song, “Let’s Get Loud,” alongside Lopez. Thrilled by her daughter’s participation on such a grand stage, Lopez shared her excitement on Instagram Story, posting, “My lil’ coconut gave me all the energy I needed to go out there,” accompanied by flashback footage from the performance. Regarding handling nerves, the 16-year-old Emme told I just don’t overthink it.
